ABOUT
Greetings! I am an experienced voice over artist, having worked in the industry for 30 years. I started out voicing for my and my fellow students’ films at college, where I studied graphic design, specialising in film and animation. Other students encouraged me to record my voice for their films after being engaged by my love of doing character voices and accents around the campus.
My first paid job was for a radio commercial for the Sunday Times, straight out of college, as a result of doing some impersonations, including one of a klaxon at the top of my voice in the acoustic paradise that is Birmingham Symphony Hall to an audience of two. Fortunately there was no other performance going on, we were just having a look around. I was booked there and then by one of those two audience members, who worked in advertising.
Since then I have voiced numerous short animations as well as working on 'Monkey Dust', the cult sketch-based animation show broadcast on BBC3 and Robin and Wendy's Wet Weekends on BBC Radio 4, as well as a couple of cameos in live-action comedies on the tele.
I have also voiced commercials, documentaries and e-learning and work in cinemas giving live performances of subtitled films for young audiences who may be unable to keep up with the subtitles - live dubbing, or simultaneous interpretation if you will.
I honed my performance skills on the UK live comedy circuit and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival performing as part of the award-winning double act Hitchcock’s Half Hour with Neil Cole.
OUTSIDE OF VO
I write and record my own music, and have recently formed a band. I play bass guitar, rhythm guitar and keyboards - all to a basic, underwhelming level.
My demos are rough around the edges!
I volunteer as grassroots football coach for my daughter’s team. In spite of that they are doing well and continue to improve.
I have worked part-time in a public arts venue, so have dealt with people from all walks of life and have learned a lot about performance from the numerous visiting artists and performances laid on there.
TESTIMONIALS
"Thanks so much again for delivering the two voice overs at such speed and on short notice – we massively appreciate it as does our client!"
Makara Health
"Tom went above and beyond to bring my film to life with his voice acting. He communicated quickly and clearly, and performed the script brilliantly from the first take, of which he did several. It was an educational, professional experience as a novice animator, and I’m grateful for his collaboration!"
